Barcelona rule out summer bid for Fabregas
Barcelona rule out summer bid for Fabregas
The Catalans were expected to make another bid to sign Arsenal captain in the summer.

SPAIN: Barcelona director Raul Sanllehi says any deal to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is "dead".

The La Liga giants were interested in re-signing Fabregas last summer, and although Arsenal managed to hold onto their skipper, it had been thought that his former club would launch another bid at the end of the season.

Sanllehi, who was involved in the discussions last summer, has now confirmed that a bid is not set to be lined up.

He was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: "Cesc is a great Catalan player. He played for us as a kid and he will be welcome back at Barcelona for the Champions League match.

"Right now, everything is dead regarding a transfer."

Sanllehi went on to say that Chelsea paid over the odds for new signing Fernando Torres.

"The £50m was high," he said. "I know Barca would not do that, not even consider it. Of course we have a budget, but a budget is like a blanket. If you pull a blanket up to your chin, you still need your feet to stay warm."
