King Frederik X And Queen Mary Adopt Regal Ensembles With A Meaning For Coronation Day
King Frederik X picked out sophisticated regalia with a uniform for the Coronation Day, featuring medallion embellishments and a sash. Queen Mary Uffe Franke turned muse to designer Soeren Le Schmidt in a sheer white dress.

Denmark erupted in thunderous applause and cheers as former Queen Margrethe II’s son Frederik X and his wife Mary Uffe Franke were crowned the King and Queen of the country. After ruling over Denmark for 52 years, Margrethe II abdicated her throne on January 14. When the newly appointed King and Queen made their first appearance on the balcony at Copenhagen’s Christiansborg Amalienborg Palace, the people of the European country gave them a warm welcome. Waving at the thousands of people assembled outside the Palace, King Frederik X and Queen Mary painted a picture of elegance and fine aristocracy in their regal ensembles.

King Frederik X picked out sophisticated regalia with a uniform for Coronation Day, featuring medallion embellishments and a sash. The “Elefantorden” or Order of the Elephant, is recognised as Denmark’s most respected order of chivalry. Taking note of his kingly duties, Frederik, as the sovereign of the order, bore its representation in his uniform. The right lapel of his military uniform came with an elephant pin. On the left, there was an eight-point silver star, and a light blue silk moire band ran across his torso, symbolising Frederik’s affiliation with the order of chivalry.

According to the Copenhagen magazine Billed Bladet, Queen Mary Uffe Franke turned muse to designer Soeren Le Schmidt. An epitome of grace, she showed up in a full-sleeved sheer white dress, sewn with perfection by Birgit Hallstein. The ensemble’s subtle bridal touch came from the fact that Birgit was the one who designed Mary’s wedding attire. Featuring a slim silhouette, the main highlight of Mary’s Coronation outfit was a scarf-like cloth wrapped around her neck. The pleated drape cascaded down her back in a royal fashion, while its front part was tucked inside a matching waist belt.

Queen Mary opted for minimal yet classic jewellery for the special day. Ruby-encrusted diamond earrings and a similar statement ring from the Danish Ruby Parure set added a flush of colour to her all-white avatar. Since Denmark’s flag is red in colour, Mary displayed her commitment to her country by adopting similar hues in her ornaments. But, the real display of eliteness came with a distinct brooch attached to her shoulder. The brooch, adorned with diamond Maltese crosses and pearls is called an ordensportrættet — a Danish royal heritage. It featured a fine portrait of former Queen Margrethe II, Mary’s mother-in-law, reported Vogue Scandinavia.

Safe to say, Denmark’s King and Queen started their new journey on the throne in regally relevant costumes.
