WBCHSE Exams: The state government has approved the semester system examination in higher secondary. From the next academic year, two exams will be conducted in higher secondary every year

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) will conduct the board exams semester-wise instead of conducting them annually. Students of class 11 and class 12 class will have to take the exam in the semester system from the academic year 2025-26.

The state government has approved the semester system examination in higher secondary. From the next academic year, two exams will be conducted in higher secondary every year. Students who are currently studying class 11 will have to take the exam in the semester system. In other words, those who will be admitted to the 11th class after passing secondary school this year will have to take the exam in the semester system.

WBCHSE had earlier submitted a proposal to the School Education Department suggesting that the Higher Secondary Examination be divided into two parts instead of one. According to the proposal, the examination will be divided into two parts — one semester to be held in November 2025 and the other in March 2026. The final examination will consist of two segments and the final marks will be calculated by averaging the scores from these two tests. The first exam will comprise only OMR sheets, requiring multiple-choice question answers, while the second exam will feature short questions.

The West Bengal Class 12 examinations 2024 have already concluded. The exams took place from February 16 to February 29, 2024. This time, as many as 41 students were disqualified after they were found in possession of mobile handsets during the class 12 board exams in West Bengal, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal board’s class 10 examinations for the year 2025 will be held between February 12 and 24, according to an official announcement. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) released a statement that mentioned that the exact timetable for the Class 10 board exams 2025 will be announced together with the results of this year’s Madhyamik Class 10 exams. WBBSE President Ramanuj Ganguly informed that they typically announce the results within 90 days of the exams’ completion. The WB Madhyamik exams 2024 were held from February 2 to 12.
