The state of Tripura is severely affected by flash floods caused by heavy rainfall. The flash floods have claimed the lives of at least seven people, while two are missing as a result of 48 hours of continuous rain in the state. As per media reports, flood levels in four rivers have reached unsafe levels, prompting almost 5,600 households to seek refuge in rescue shelters.
According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue over Tripura for the next two days. The IMD on Tuesday said that the incessant rainfall is the result of the influence of the low-pressure area persisting over central parts of Bangladesh and the surrounding region. It added that the rain may result in low visibility resulting in traffic snarls.
