The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, has recently been granted the status of a Deemed University. This upgrade allows NIELIT Gorakhpur to collaborate with 11 prominent institutions across India in the field of higher technical education. Currently offering over 80 courses, the institute plans to expand its curriculum to more than 100 courses following its new designation.
This recognition has been granted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act. It is expected to significantly enhance the institute’s educational and research capabilities.
From the academic session 2024-25, NIELIT will offer courses such as M.Tech, B.Tech, Machine Learning and various diploma programmes. These new additions will provide students with a broader range of employment opportunities and equip them with the latest skills in modern technology.
Dr Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, the Director of the institute, said that the status of a Deemed University gives the institution autonomy to design its curriculum, set its fee structure, and manage its admission process, all while delivering cutting-edge technical education. He emphasised that this recognition will serve as a milestone, allowing the institute to develop new courses in line with the evolving demands of the industry. This will not only enhance the educational qualifications of students but also provide them with hands-on experience, contributing to their overall development.
The director further noted that this transformation will position NIELIT as a centre for both education and technical expertise, enabling students to play a crucial role in India’s digital growth and contribute to impactful campaigns. As NIELIT Gorakhpur embarks on this new journey, it is expected to make a significant contribution to both the academic and technological landscapes of the country.
