Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2023 on Tuesday. Many aspirants have cleared the exam including a candidate named Apoorv Anand of Bhikhanpur village of Amarpur Block Office, Banka district, Bihar.

Apoorv, son of Om Narayan Sharma has secured 163rd rank. His path to crack one of the toughest exams in India was replete with struggles as he faced the traumatic situation of his father’s demise. He, however, remained undeterred and accomplished his objective on the third attempt.

In an interview with News18 Bihar, his father died in 2015 and he had to face many difficult situations after this incident. Apoorv had earlier managed to crack the JEE and got into the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He then secured the degree of Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics and Computing. Following the completion of graduation, he worked with Goldman Sachs in Bengaluru on a lucrative package of Rs 32 lakh per year.

Apoorv, however, had to leave the job and return home following the imposition of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. After quitting the job, he started preparing for the UPSC CSE exam.

The Banka aspirant, however, couldn’t succeed on his first two attempts. Despite the initial setbacks, he remained undeterred and studied regularly for 8-10 hours. Apoorv also concentrated on his earlier mistakes and sorted them out, leaving no room for further lapses. His persistent efforts bore fruit and finally was able to pass the UPSC exam on the third attempt.

As per the Banka aspirant, despite being a farmer, his father motivated him and didn’t let anything hamper his studies. After his father’s demise, Apoorv became strongly committed to accomplishing his goal of doing something great in life and started working hard. He credits his uncle Narayan Sharma for helping him generously. The Banka aspirant said that he has been preparing for the UPSC exam via online mode at home since 2021. He remembers his father saying that one should be serious about accomplishing whatever one wants to do and work hard.
