With his 31st ball of his innings, Jaiswal swept one through the field, off Taijul Islam to reach his fifty and etch his name as the fastest fifty scored by an Indian opener in Test cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to blossom in the Test format, as the Indian opener smashed a blistering fifty in just 31 balls, becoming the fastest Indian opener to do so in Test cricket.

Jaiswal carried his consistency in the long format through to the second Test against Bangladesh as well, as the Indian side blitzed their way to a plethora of records on Day 4, registering the fastest team fifty, hundred and 150 all in the same innings.

The tone for the same onslaught was set by none other than Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma themselves, as the duo pummeled through the Bangladesh bowlers, to notch up fifty as a team in no time.

Both openers launched a brutal assault on the Bangladesh bowling attack. Jaiswal struck a hat-trick of boundaries in the opening over to accumulate 12 runs. The next over saw Rohit go off the mark with a gigantic six that flew over long-on and landed on the shamiana over the stands. The Indian captain followed it up with another maximum to set the tone.

After his skipper’s early dismissal, the youngster continued his blitz as he sliced, diced and walloped all that was thrown at him to keep the tempo up.

Finally, with his 31st ball of his innings, Jaiswal swept one through the field, off Taijul Islam to reach his fifty and etch his name as the fastest fifty scored by an Indian opener in Test cricket.

His feat stood at a tied-third in the all-time list of fastest fifties scored by an Indian in Test Cricket as well, With Rishabh Pant and Kapil Dev beating him to the top spot.

On top of it all, Jaiswal also broke Ajinkya Rahane’s record of scoring most runs for India in one edition of the World Test Championship with his 72-run knock off 51 balls.

The 22-year-old left-handed batter, who made his Test debut in July 2023, against the West Indies, has 1166 runs to his name in 19 innings of 11 matches played so far in the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle, overtaking Rahane’s best of 1094 runs in 12 matches in the 2019-21 WTC cycle.

India continue to push on ahead with fearless attacking intent and a sense of urgency, as the home side faces a battle against time to put themselves in a position to compete for a win, with a little over a day’s play left in the Test.
