A host of top India cricket stars were present at an award show in Mumbai on Wednesday during which the likes of Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, Jay Shah among others were honoured for their achievements in the past year or so.
Rohit was conferred with the men’s international cricketer of the year award while Dravid received lifetime achievement award. On the other hand, BCCI secretary Jay Shah was honoured for excellence in sports administration.
A heartwarming exchange between Rohit and his India teammate Shreyas Iyer during the event is going viral on social media.

Iyer was given a memento for ‘outstanding leadership’ in IPL having led Kolkata Knight Riders to title win earlier this year. He’s the only captain in IPL history to have led two different franchises to a final having earlier guided Delhi Capitals to the summit clash during in 2020.
Rohit realised his dream of winning a world title as captain earlier this year when India won the T20 world cup in Barbados beating South Africa in the final.
“It was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results, to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much,” Rohit said.
“(It was) a feeling that cannot come everyday. It was something that we were really hoping for. When we won the World Cup, it was important for all of us to enjoy the moment which we did pretty well and thanks to our nation as well for celebrating with us,” he added.
Rohit had come closer to winning a world cup title twice in 2023 within the space of a few months when India made it to the finals of World Test Championship and ODI World Cup. However, on both the occasions they finished runners-up to Australia.
India were third time lucky though as they again made it to the final of a global tourney, this time it being 2024 T20 World Cup and became the champions for the second time in their history.
