Watch: Richa Ghosh Wins 'Fielder Of The Match' Medal For Stunning Catch Against Pakistan
Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh was named the best fielder for India following their win over Pakistan in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.

The Indian women cricket team displayed a fine effort to overcome Pakistan in a group match of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE. India succeeded in restricting their arch-rivals to 105 and ended up winning the low-scoring fixture by six wickets. After the contest, India fielding coach Munish Bali lauded the players for their gritty performances.

Shafali Verma garnered praise for taking a couple of catches while Richa Ghosh was hailed for her brilliant glovework. The 21-year-old wicketkeeper was named the best fielder for India and received her medal from Bali.

Ghosh effected a stumping before completing the important catch of Pakistan captain Fatima Sana. The batter attempted a slog-sweep off Asha Sobhana in the 14th over but failed to connect it properly. The ball found the outside edge and Richa jumped to her right to snaffle it.

During his dressing room speech, Bali said, “Wicketkeeping of Richa Ghosh was excellent– one stumping and one extraordinary catch. Well done.”

He presented the best fielder medal to Richa after boarding the team bus.

It was a brilliant comeback for the youngster, who missed an easy catch in the T20 World Cup opener against New Zealand.

“I spoke to sir (Munish Bali) after what happened in the last match. We practiced a lot, especially high catches. Sir suggested that I should forget about the missed catch and start afresh. I think it actually worked for me,” Richa said after receiving the medal.

Arundhati Reddy and Shreyanka Patil deserve much credit for India’s dominant show against Pakistan. Arundhati fetched a three-wicket haul while Shreyanka chipped in with a couple. Among others, Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma and Asha Sobhana picked up one wicket each.

During the run chase, India lost the wicket of opener Smriti Mandhana early in the fifth over. Shafali, however, was in good form and scored 32. Jemimah Rodrigues, who arrived at the crease at number three, added 23 runs to the scorecard.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also had a good outing with the bat and registered 29 runs before retiring hurt due to an injury. India completed the run chase in 18.5 overs to claim their first victory of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
