IPL 2024 has begun in the worst possible fashion for the Mumbai Indians. They currently find themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings. Having played three games, they are yet to register a win.

Mumbai Indians are known for coming up with brand-new experiments to reduce the stress and anxiety of the players. They have devised an alternative method of disciplining their players who arrive late for training sessions, team meetings and departures.

On Tuesday, they posted a video of their players donning weird jumpsuits. “Punishment Jumpsuits are back,” read the caption of the post. The post shared by the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions featured players like Ishan Kishan, Shams Mulani, Kumar Kartikeya and Nuwan Thushara wearing Superman-themed jumpsuits at the airport, with the Mumbai Indians logo printed on the chest. The players also put on a blue cape to complete the Superman imitation outfit.

This is not the first instance of Mumbai Indians punishing its players by making them wear funny jumpsuits. During IPL 2023, Akash Madhwal, Nehal Wadhera, and Cameron Green were also hilariously reprimanded for indiscipline. Back then, those jumpsuits had mugshots of all Mumbai Indians players printed all over them.

Mumbai Indians, along with Chennai Super Kings, are the joint-most successful side in the IPL history with five titles to their name. Last year, they made it to the playoffs but were eliminated by eventual runners-up Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2.

The return of Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans saw him replace long-time captain Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians. Hardik’s return was meant to usher Mumbai Indians into a new era. The decision, however, has not paid dividends yet, as they have conceded three defeats so far.

Their campaign began with a narrow six-run loss to Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. In the second game, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, records tumbled as Mumbai Indians were on the wrong side of history, conceding the fourth-highest number of runs in a T20 match and the most in any IPL game ever. SRH posted 277 runs and defeated Mumbai Indians by 31 runs.

On Monday, April 1, Mumbai Indians played their first game in front of the Wankhede crowd, this season but they put in a toothless batting to post a paltry total of 125 against Rajasthan Royals. The visitors did not face much trouble in registering a win.
