Mumbai Indians’ (MI) bowling lynchpin Jasprit Bumrah had a quiet outing on Sunday, April 14, as the five-time champions clashed against the only other team to win as many titles, the defending champions in Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Billed as the ‘El Clasico’ of the Indian Premier League (IPL) given the significance of the tie between these two teams and the history that they carry, the match lived up to its hype as we were delivered yet another memorable game. It was the first (and only) fixture between the two IPL heavyweights.

Following the game, though, Bumrah walked into the CSK dressing room and posed for a photo with the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The video, shared on X by IPL, has been doing the rounds since then.

Fans simply loved the mini-reunion and flooded the comments section with hearts and fire emojis.

Some pointed out that they felt great to see the camaraderie between the duo still remain.

There’s absolutely no doubt that Dhoni is among the legendary cricketers in the world, and it shows in the way the players, both current and former, speak about him.

A quick recap — Bumrah, who has been a part of the Mumbai Indians’ setup since 2013 after the-then head scout John Wright spotted him for Gujarat in the domestic circuit, was handed his India debut in an ODI against Australia in Australia in January 2016 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Soon, he became one of Dhoni’s trump cards. The bond between the duo goes back a long way.

Coming back to the Sunday game, Bumrah couldn’t prevent MI from a defeat against Dhoni’s CSK. Bumrah was economical in his four overs, conceding just 27 runs, but failed to pick any wickets. CSK posted 206 runs on the board, thanks to half-centuries from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube, and a blistering cameo from Dhoni.

Coming out to bat in the final over, Dhoni smashed MI skipper Hardik Pandya for three consecutive sixes as he scored 20 runs off four balls. That short burst Dhoni eventually proved to be the difference as MI went on to lose the game by 20 runs, despite a valiant unbeaten ton from Rohit Sharma.
