The Indian players took a lap of the stadium with AR Rahman’s Maa Tujhe Salaam being played at the venue. The players, led by Virat Kohli, soon joined the fans in singing the song.

A clip has been shared on social media showing Kohli seemingly asking his India teammates including captain Rohit Sharma to sing the iconic song that was released in 1997.

India defeated South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup held in Barbados on June 29 to win the competition for the first time since 2007. The victory also ended the team’s 11-year wait for an ICC title having last won the Champions Trophy in 2013.

The Indian team has been rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 125 crore by the BCCI and it will be distributed among the entire world cup winning contingent including the players, coaches and support staff.

The 15-man squad and head coach Rahul Dravid will reportedly be receiving Rs 5 crore each and Rs 2.5 crore respectively while the players in the reserve will get Rs 1 crore each. The rest will be divided between the assistant coaches and support staff.

Kohli scored a match-winning half-century and was declared player-of-the-match while Jasprit Bumrah won player-of-the-tournament award.

This is Rohit’s first ever ICC title win as captain and having achieved that, he announced his retirement from T20Is. However, he will continue captaining India in Tests and ODIs.
