Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir Seen Training Ahead of First ODI Against Sri Lanka
The Indian team are training hard ahead of their first ODI against Sri Lanka. The big guns are also seen practicing their fielding ahead of the big game.

The preparations for India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka are in full swing. The upcoming series will be the team’s first in the format under the management of Gautam Gambhir.

Major cricketing stars including the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were spotted during the training session for the ODI campaign. Giving the fans a glimpse of the preparations, a series of photographs was shared by the Indian Cricket Team’s Instagram account.

Addressing their upcoming clash against their Asian counterparts at the R Premadasa Stadium, the account wrote, “Inching closer to ODI 1.”

In the first photograph, Rohit Sharma was snapped standing beside Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar. The Indian skipper was seemingly having an important conversation with the new Indian Coach and the BCCI Chief Selector. Virat Kohli was also seen standing beside the coach during the practice session. Bowlers including Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav had their helmets on, supposedly for batting sessions. Whereas, Rohit and Kohli were seen doing some catching practice.

Fans have now flocked to the comments section, reacting to the team’s intense practice session. “Gauti as coach, Virat as player,” wrote one fan.

One more added, “We got Virat x GG in the same team before GTA 6.”

Another jokingly said, ‘Harshit and Kuldeep with the helmet. Rohit and Virat with the ball. It’s GG era.”

One was happy to see KL Rahul make it back to the squad. “KL Rahul is back,” read the comment.

“Finally Shreyas in back,” wrote one more.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli landed in Colomba a few days back for India’s upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. Rohit arrived alongside his teammates KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana on July 28 with Kohli joining them a day later in the afternoon. The Indian stalwarts returned to a cricket field over a month after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. The duo of Rohit and Kohli weren’t a part of India’s T20I series that concluded on July 30. Both cricketers had announced their retirement from the format after leading India to glory in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The Gautam Gambhir era has already begun on a successful note with India notching a spotless 3-0 triumph in the recently concluded T20I series. With Rohit Sharma’s departure, Suryakumar Yadav was named the team’s captain. The Mumbai-born batter even won the Player of the Series for showing up with the bat for the Men in Blue multiple times.
