'Not the Way We Hoped it Would End But...': Shubman Gill Reflects on Poor IPL 2024 Season for GT; Hints at Potential Exit
It might not be how Shubman Gill wanted his first season as Gujarat Titans skipper to go but the captain remains grateful for the immense support he has received through the years.

The Gujarat Titans’ 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) comes to an end following the washout of their fine league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shubman Gill, the GT skipper posted a heartfelt note which could suggest a future away from the side.

Gill was announced as the skipper for the franchise, replacing Hardik Pandya who made the sensational switch back to the Mumbai Indians. However, the opening batter was unable to replicate the magic from the previous seasons as they missed out on a playoff spot for the first time in their history.

Despite coming into the tournament back in 2021, the side was a force to be reckoned with as they managed to win the title in their first year followed by a runners-up in the next season indicating their dominance.

However, now GT seems to be a shadow of what it used to be with just 12 points in the season indicating a sharp decline. Gill had uploaded a heartfelt note on his official social media handle on Instagram which seemed to indicate his interest in moving away from the franchise in the future.

His note read,” Not the way we hoped it would end, but it’s been a season full of learning and some great memories. I’ve been a part of this beautiful family for three years, and it’s been a journey I will never forget. I want to thank all the fans who supported us and showed us love when times were tough”.

Following the end of the 2024 season, all the franchises will prepare themselves for the next year as they will gear up for the mega auctions which will give sides a chance to overhaul their side to potentially get back on top. Titans could consider this as an opportunity but it remains uncertain as to what their plans might be for the future.

Gill remains one of the finest young talents in Indian cricket and after being handed the responsibility of leading the side, his performances with the bat have also seen a decline where he has scored only 426 runs in comparison to the 890 he had scored in the previous year.

While the future remains uncertain, one point that remains is that the Titans need to look into their side and rework their combinations for the new season if they are to get back on top.
