It was the 50th home win for CSK at Chepauk and also their final league game in this year’s competition. Prior to the game, the franchise had requested the fans via Instagram post to stay back after the game for ‘something special’. While the fans obliged, the defending champions greeted them with a satisfying win and gave away tennis balls during their lap of honour.

While CSK would still need to win their final away game and seal the play-off berth with 16 points and a healthy positive net run-rate, Gaikwad termed it a “wonderful feeling” to cap off the league engagements at home with a comfortable win.

The defending champions stayed in contention for a place in the IPL play-offs with a five-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals. In a low-scoring match which had its share of drama with Ravindra Jadeja being given out for obstructing the field, CSK chased down a target of 142 with 10 balls to spare on a tricky surface.
Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was the star for CSK with the bat, remaining unbeaten on a 41-ball 42.
“Definitely we would love to play on such wickets. It brings our spinners into play and with huge boundaries, there is an amount of risk to hit sixes,” the astute young captain said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
“That is always the plan whenever you come here. Sometimes, the wicket is flatter and we go to the yorkers. When the wicket is slow and you have a bigger side, you want to take the pace off,” he added.
