Lungi Ngidi Ruled Out of IPL 2024, Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk Named as Replacement
Delhi Capitals will kickstart their IPL 2024 campaign when they face Punjab Kings in Chandigarh.

Delhi Capitals have been dealt another blow with just over a week remaining for the IPL 2024 to get underway. After England batter Harry Brook’s withdrawal, they have also lost Lungi Ngidi who has been ruled out from the entire season due to an injury.

Ngidi, who has 25 wickets from 14 IPL matches, is recovering from a back injury he suffered during the SA20. DC have named Australia allrounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as the South African’s replacement.

Fraser-McGurk has played 2 ODIs for Australia and joins DC for his reserve price of Rs 50 lakh.

The 21-year-old is known for his aggressive batting and gave an example of it during an ODI against West Indies earlier this year when the smacked 41 off 18 deliveries as Australia chased down a target of 87 inside seven overs.

The highly-rated Fraser-McGurk bowls legs-spin and his talent with the bat has Australia legend Ricky Ponting’s endorsement who feels the youngster can become an all-format star.

“…we’ve seen with other players in the past, even like a Shahid Afridi or something like that, that came on the stage as an ultra-talented ball-striking 17-year-old that can bowl legspin and before you know it, he’s probably played Test matches,” Ponting had said.

“I was on record at the start of the summer saying I think he’s someone that can be well and truly fast-tracked through the Australian system. Because the natural talent that he’s got reminds me a bit of David Warner’s introduction into Australian cricket. When we saw (Warner) at the start, I think everyone doubted whether he was going to be good enough to play Test cricket technically. When you’ve got that sort of talent you need to be exposed to cricket at the highest level to work it out. And I think Jake can do that yet. I’m definitely backing one day to play Test cricket,” he added.
