With MI eliminated, it is now a fight among the other nine teams to seal the IPL 2024 Playoff spots. Here's a look at what the teams need to do to make the top 4.

After the SRH vs LSG match, Mumbai Indians are mathematically out of the race for the IPL 2024 playoff and it is now a fight among the other nine teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season to seal the top 4 spots. Here’s a look at what the teams need to do to make the IPL 2024 playoffs.

IPL 2024 Playoff Qualification Scenarios

Kolkata Knight Riders – KKR are top of the IPL 2024 points table with 16 points.

Remaining matches

  • KKR vs MI
  • GT vs KKR
  • RR vs KKR

A win in their last three games will mean they reach 18 points and all but secure their spot in the playoffs as only three other teams (RR, CSK and SRH or LSG) can reach 18 points. More importantly, they will look to win against RR in their final league match as RR right now are placed second equal on points, and KKR would hope to end higher than RR in the points table to secure a top-two finish

Rajasthan Royals – RR are currently placed second in the points table with 16 points.

Remaining matches

  • CSK vs RR
  • RR vs PBKS
  • RR vs KKR

A win in their last three games will mean they reach 18 points and all but secure their spot in the playoffs as only three other teams (KKR, CSK and SRH or LSG) can reach 18 points. Like KKR, they would especially want to win over KKR to be in the hunt for the top-two finish

Sunrisers Hyderabad – SRH are currently placed third in the IPL 2024 points table with 14 points.

Remaining matches

  • SRH vs GT
  • SRH vs PBKS

With a massive win over LSG, SRH have boosted their playoff chances. With two games remaining – against laggards GT (10th) and PBKS (8th) – and going by their current form, one could hope that SRH can claim four points from their remaining two games and if they do that, then the Pat Cummins-led side will seal a playoff spot. A loss in either of the two matches will mean they will have a tantalizing wait to see if other match results go in their favour.

Sanjiv Goenka Did Not Shy Away From Sacking MS Dhoni. Will KL Rahul Meet the Same Fate?

Chennai Super Kings – CSK are currently placed fourth in the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points.

Remaining matches

  • GT vs CSK
  • CSK vs RR
  • RCB vs CSK

With SRH’s massive win, CSK are now in a precarious position needing at least two wins from their remaining three games to confirm a playoff spot. They play 10th placed GT and then 2nd placed RR before rounding off their league stage against RCB. The RR game at home will be the one they would be aiming to win, as an RR loss will help them immensely in their quest for the playoffs.

Delhi Capitals – DC are currently placed fifth in the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points.

Remaining matches

  • RCB vs DC
  • DC vs LSG

DC are in the mid-table scrum alongside CSK and LSG, but unlike CSK, they only have two games left – against RCB away and LSG at home. And it is imperative for them to win both the games to go up to 16 points and hope other results go their way, so that they can sneak into the top 4. DC have registered two wins in their last three games. A loss in either of their last two games should be curtains to their campaign.

‘Highly Unprofessional, Pathetic’: Fans Want KL Rahul to Quit LSG After Owner’s Angry Outburst in Public

Lucknow Super Giants – LSG are currently placed sixth in the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points.

Remaining matches

  • DC vs LSG
  • MI vs LSG

The harrowing loss to SRH have dented LSG’s net run-rate significantly, and like DC they are left with two games, and wins in both games will be their priority. That will take them to 16 points and then they will have to hope for the current top 4 teams to lose multiple games to make their way up to the top 4. A loss in either of their last two games, should be curtains to their campaign.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru – RCB are currently in seventh position in the points table with 8 points.

Remaining matches

  • PBKS vs RCB
  • RCB vs DC
  • RCB vs CSK

If RCB win all three of their remaining games, they can reach a maximum of 14 points. However, KKR and RR are already at 16, meaning RCB can at best hope to finish 3rd or 4th. Then again, with DC and LSG playing against each other, one of those teams will also have a minimum of 14 points and due to far superior run-rate they are likely to finish higher than RCB. So, it is about that last playoff spot for RCB, and for that to happen one of these three scenarios has to come true 1. LSG will have to lose all their remaining games, 2. DC will have to lose all their remaining games 3. CSK will have to lose all their remaining games. That’s a highly unlikely scenario. Also, RCB are facing DC and CSK – both of which will be tough games to win.

‘We’re All Hurt…’: Lucknow Super Giants React After Owner’s Fiery Chat With KL Rahul Goes Viral

Punjab Kings – PBKS are currently 8th in the points table with 8 points

Remaining matches

  • PBKS vs RCB
  • RR vs PBKS
  • SRH vs PBKS

Same as RCB, PBKS can go up to 14 points provided they win all of their remaining games and then they will have to hope for a lot of other match results to go their way moreover, they would need to win handsomely to surpass RCB’s NRR. PBKS’s next match is against RCB and a win will keep them alive in the playoff race; a loss will mean the end of the road for the Sam Curran-led side this season.

Mumbai Indians – MI are currently placed at the ninth spot in the points table with 8 points.

Remaining matches

  • KKR vs MI
  • MI vs LSG

After SRH’s win over LSG, Mumbai Indians have officially become the first team to be eliminated from the IPL 2024 playoff race. With two games remaining MI can reach a maximum of 12 points, same as the current fourth-placed team in the points tally – CSK. But CSK have three games remaining, even if CSK go on to lose their last three games, one of DC and LSG are guaranteed to finish with at least 14 points as they are taking on each other. In that case, MI do not have a mathematical possibility of making the top 4 even if they win their remaining two games.

Gujarat Titans – GT are currently placed 10th in the points table with 8 points

Remaining matches

  • GT vs CSK
  • GT vs KKR
  • SRH vs GT

With three games remaining, Gujarat’s aim will be to win all and reach 14 points. From there on it will be up to the results of other matches going their way for them to have a chance at playing their third straight playoff. NRR will also come into play if they are tied on points with other teams, and unfortunately for the Shubman gill-led side, their NRR is not in their favour currently.
