IPL 2024 Orange and Purple Cap Update After Qualifier 1, RR vs RCB: Virat Kohli Remains at the Top; Riyan Parag Jumps to 3rd in Run-scoring Charts
In the latest update to the orange and purple cap race, Virat Kohli remains at the top of the run-scoring charts. Riyan Parag has jumped to third. Sanju Samson is at sixth while Yuzvendra Chahal is now at sixth in the wicket-taking list.

It was heartbreak yet again for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they suffered a defeat in the Eliminator 1 matchup against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday.

Being asked to bat first, Virat Kohli managed to chip in with some runs but was not able to carry through to the end as he usually did thanks to the brilliance of Yuzvendra Chahal who got the big wicket of the current orange cap holder.

In the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on his fifty but gave RR the start they needed to chase down the target of 173. Following his dismissal, Riyan Parag continued from the middle and took things forward but was dismissed prematurely like most batters today.

However, Shimron Hetmyer scored some crucial runs at the death while Rovman Powell finished things off to take RR through to the next stage where they meet Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai for a spot in the finals of IPL 2024.

Top 5 Batsmen In IPL 2024 Orange Cap Standings

Virat Kohli: It was not meant to be for the RCB icon. He managed to chip in with 30-odd runs against RR but it was not enough as he was not able to do what he does best which is carry through till the end and make sure his side had a decent score on the board. Nonetheless, he remains at the top of the run-scoring list and will be proud of his side’s performances throughout the season.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: Being handed the responsibility of leading the five-time champions, CSK, the pressure of leading the side after MS Dhoni has not weighed down his batting at all. Despite a poor start to the season, he has managed to hit his stride and has shown the ability to play as per the situation, rather than looking to score runs for himself.

Riyan Parag: Riyan Parag who despite not scoring big as per his standards, put in another crucial performance through the chase to help RR get through the first eliminator. He chipped in with a valuable 36 to take RR closer to the target and the side will hope he can continue scoring the crucial runs as RR heads into the second eliminator.

Travis Head: While his current form might be a concern, he is definitely a big threat up top in the batting order where he has been showcasing an explosive brand of batting which rattles any top side. With the second eliminator coming up, SRH will hope that he can get back to form and help them get the title.

Sai Sudharshan:

Top 5 Bowlers In IPL 2024 Purple Cap Standings

Harshal Patel: The PBKS ace has been outstanding for the franchise, particularly through the death overs where he has shown the knack of getting wickets regularly. Despite not having the greatest start to the tournament he is now seemingly set to take the purple cap with only one or two potential contenders who are behind and in the playoffs.

Jasprit Bumrah: It might not have been the season he expected for Mumbai Indians. Despite the uncertainties in performances from the side as a collective, Jasprit Bumrah has been a shining light being almost unplayable in most wickets and has shown the ability to take wickets while giving away minimal runs across all three phases of the innings.

Varun Chakravarthy: The mystery-spinner might not have had the best start to the tournament. But his return to form has seen him become KKR’s leading wicket-taker for the season and has already matched his best tally for an IPL season. His performances will indicate whether the two-time champions can get their third title.

Arshdeep Singh: While he has had an outstanding tournament in terms of taking wickets. An aspect he would need to work on is his ability to keep the runs conceded on the lower end. His current economy rate is at over 10 which is not ideal from the lead pacer.

T Natarajan: Despite SRH coming out of the first qualifier on the losing end, Natarajan has managed to display his class with the ball by delivering the crucial breakthrough for the side. His ability to bowl in all three facets of the innings makes him a lethal asset to have on the SRH side.
