IPL 2024: Hilarious Posts Take Internet by Storm Following Delhi Capitals' Win Over Rajasthan Royals
views
Several memes surfaced on social media following Delhi Capitals’ victory over the Rajasthan Royals yesterday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The winners of the inaugural IPL were in a comfortable position during their chase against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. A debatable umpiring decision, however, in the 16th over led to RR skipper Sanju Samson’s dismissal. Right after Samson’s departure, the former IPL champions lost track as they kept losing wickets, eventually conceding a defeat. Despite the drama, the fans seemed to enjoy the high-octane fixture on Tuesday night. Many of them expressed their reactions to the game by sharing some hilarious posts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The majority of the memes were directed mostly towards the poor umpiring that IPL is witnessing this season. Some of them talked about how the umpires were extremely careful while checking a normal wide via DRS by taking a look at multiple angles. But when it came to checking a crucial catch like the one from yesterday’s game, the umpires were satisfied with just a single angle.

Following a heartbreaking defeat, Sanju Samson explained that these things happen in sports. This is what the Rajasthan skipper said in the post-match conference, “I think we had it in our hands, it was 11-12 runs per over, it was achievable, but these things happen in IPL. Yes, we are doing both things fine, we would like to stick to what the conditions demand, 220 was 10 runs extra to chase, and if we had conceded a couple of fewer boundaries, we would have made it through”
This is not the first time that a match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals game has stirred up controversy. In the IPL 2022 season, shocking scenes unfolded between the two franchises at the Wankhede Stadium. During Delhi’s chase of 223, Rovman Powell slammed a full-toss delivery from Obed McCoy for a six before asking the umpires to check for no-ball. The umpires denied his request, asking the Delhi batters to continue. The drama escalated after Rishabh Pant signalled his batters to walk back to protest the umpire’s decision. After a brief pause, the game resumed once again and RR secured a 15-run victory.

Yesterday’s IPL game between the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals was crucial for the Rishabh Pant-led side as they fought for a playoff spot. The match began with RR bowling first after the toss. Aussie opener Jake-Fraser McGurk was at his usual best as he smashed a 20-ball half-century. Another 65-run knock from Abhishek Porel helped the 2020 finalists reach 221 runs. In the second half, Samson spearheaded Rajasthan’s chase with a 46-ball 86. However, Samson’s dismissal eventually led to the side falling 20 runs short of the total.
