India’s dominating show against England that culminated in a 4-1 Test series win was in part fueled by the spirited show from a host of youngsters. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were at the forefront of this performance which also had vital contributions from several debutants.
India gave debuts to five players during the series including Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep and Devdutt Padikkal. Barring Patidar, the remaining four showed plenty of promise especially when India were playing without their leading stars at various points during the series.

India skipper Rohit Sharma played in all five games and enjoyed how the debutants took to international cricket.
“I was just lost in their debuts. I was enjoying their debuts so much because their parents were there. There was so much emotion,” Rohit said on Team Ro.
One of the most highly anticipated debuts in the series was that of Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan who justified the hype with twin fifties in his first Test for India.
Sarfaraz’s father and wife were present in Rajkot when he received his India cap from legendary spinner Anil Kumble.
“I have played with Sarfaraz’s father in Kanga league when I was very young. His father was a left handed batter. He was an aggressive player and very well known in Mumbai cricket circles. I wanted to acknowledge his effort and hard work that had paid off with his son playing for India. I just wanted to tell him that his son’s Test cap belongs as much to him as his son,” Rohit said.
Rohit was also impressed with how the youngsters responded to him and head coach Rahul Dravid’s advise.
“I really enjoyed playing with the youngsters. All of them are very mischievous. I knew most of them well and what their strengths are and how do they want to play the game. It was just me talking to them about how good they are and the good things they have done in the past. The way they responded to me and Rahul bhai was superb,” he said.
