An inspirational pep-talk from Rohit Sharma led Piyush Chawla to get the wicket of Jake Fraser-McGurk.

Jake Fraser-McGurk continued his good showing by slamming a sensational 84 but an inspirational pep-talk from Rohit Sharma led Piyush Chawla to get his wicket, during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.

Bringing his big-hitting prowess to the fore, young McGurk gave the scorching Delhi heat competition but it was the cool composure from the veteran spinner that ended his stay at the wicket, albeit after some words from Rohit.

Jake Fraser-McGurk ecplained at the mid-innings break that attacking the bowlers at the top is his role in the side.

“That’s my role, go out there and score as many as I can and get the team off to a nice start. Not at all, if I get ones and twos it’s probably off the last ball of the over or if I mis-hit it. It’s something I’ve always had, getting that base right and having the right stance. There’s a lot of timing involved in it. The ones that you mis-hit, you need to have a strong core, upper body and glutes as well,” Fraser-McGurk on his power-hitting.

As for the game, DC posted 257/4 from their 20 overs. While McGurk sparkled upfront, Tristan Stubbs dazzled with an unbeaten 48 off 25 balls at the death overs as DC put up a superlative batting effort to register their highest-ever score in IPL.

Tilak Varma (63) and Hardik Pandya (46) played some lofty shots to give MI a glimmer of hope but DC bowlers, led by Rasikh Salam (3/34), kept striking at regular intervals to stop MI at 247/9. The win elevated DC to the fifth spot while MI continued to occupy the penultimate place.
