Former India wicketkeeper-batter has jumped on the role of a commentator, days after drawing curtains on his international career. He is also back as the famous weatherman for the Indian fans from overseas. On Thursday, when India and England were waiting for the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final to get underway after a brief rain delay, Karthik kept the netizens updated with his regular posts on Guyana’s weather.

It has been raining for days in Guyana as the country is currently deep in its wet season. The weather also made the fans and players wait as the toss was delayed by one-and-a-half hours. Meanwhile, Karthik was attending the people on social media and at the same time, was also in front of Sky Sports’ camera, with a hat.

After Ravi Shastri’s handwoven green hat, Karthik hogged the focus light with a brown-coloured one. As he analysed the conditions at Providence Stadium, his co-commentator Ian Ward complimented the headwear.

“Good hat, by the way,” said Ward.

“Thank you,” Karthik replied.

“It is one of the toughest aspects of playing in conditions which is rain affected.

Speaking about the impact of rain delays on the teams, Karthik said, “You don’t know when it starts. But what’s worse is when it’s raining. It started and it stopped. Then it gets a little harder, especially if you’re batting, you have to start again. Those are the challenges.”

“The one thing that they will be worried about a little bit is making sure the ground is in good condition to start, which as we all know, ICC will take enough care of, knowing that there’s a final round the corner as well,” he added.

England opt to bowl

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to field against India in Guyana. A pre-match downpour delayed the toss but the gloomy conditions gave way to blue skies and the match is set to start at 1545 GMT, with no overs lost yet.

Both teams were unchanged from their concluding Super Eights games.
