Craziest Reflex:’ Paul Coughlin's Incredible Catch Against Lancashire In T20 Blast

English cricketer Paul Coughlin took the internet by storm by completing a magnificent catch during a T20 Blast match between Durham and Lancashire at the Riverside Ground on Sunday, June 16. The event unfolded in the second innings when Lancashire were chasing a hefty target of 219.

Durban ultimately secured a narrow two-run victory in the thrilling contest. Coughlin was one of the top-performing bowlers for Durhan. He picked up two wickets giving away 45 runs in three overs. His impressive bowling was overshadowed by a one-handed stunner which Coughlin took to dismiss Lancashire wicketkeeper Matthew Hurst.

As the Durhan pacer took the catch off his own bowling, his acrobatic efforts were captured on the umpire’s camera and the footage went viral in no time. Coughlin attempted a yorker in the seventh over of Lancashire’s innings. He, however, missed the length by some inches, with Hurst pulling off an elevated, straight drive.

Paul Coughlin reacted promptly as the ball was travelling towards his head. He collapsed on the crease but still managed to complete a spectacular one-handed catch. Hurst was spotted nodding his head in disbelief before leaving the ground. Durham Cricket shared a clip of the catch on X (formerly Twitter) along with the caption that read, “Oh My Word! Paul Coughlin. How Have You Caught That!”

The video grabbed the attention of many fans, who jumped into the comments, lauding Paul Coughlin for taking an unreal catch. One of them branded it as the “craziest reflex caught and bowled.” “Nothing tops this I believe. Unless there is another that I don’t know about,” the person added.

Some felt Paul Coughlin was lucky enough to get hold of the ball. “He was trying to get away and somehow managed,” assumed another social media user.

Another person commented, “Unbelievable instinct. That’s what we need to get used to as a top-level county again.”

Speaking about the T20 Blast match, Graham Clark and David Bedingham excelled with the bat for Durham. Clark was as the top-scorer for his side, registering 87 runs off 57 balls while Bedighman played a fine 78-run knock.

Lancashire lost a few early wickets during the run chase but managed to recover on the back of some crucial contributions from the middle and lower order. Chris Green struck a blistering 38 off 18 deliveries while George Balderson remained unbeaten on 37. Lancashire, eventually, managed to reach 216 losing eight wickets in 20 overs.
