The Mumbai Indians put up a spirited performance against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium where the visitors almost chased down 258 but missed out by a margin of 10 runs.
A big positive for MI would be Hardik Pandya getting his batting right as he scored a quickfire 46 in 24 balls to get the visiting side’s chase back on track and also set up a partnership with Tilak Varma.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Hardik revealed that despite the mammoth score to be chased down, his side had backed themselves to get the job done.

“This game is becoming more and more closer. The difference used to be a couple of overs, now it’s becoming a couple of balls. Because of the kind of games and how the bowlers are under pressure, we backed ourselves to do it,” said the all-rounder.
With regards to their shortcomings, Hardik reckons that his side could have used some of the matchups in their favour. He picked out the example of left-handers going after Axar Patel.

The MI skipper added, “If I had to pick something out, we could have taken a couple of more chances in the middle overs. The left-handers could have probably gone after Axar a little bit, it’s something we missed out on in terms of game awareness”.
Pandya also appreciated the blistering knock by DC’s young batting sensation, Jake Fraser-McGurk who set the tone in the first innings by scoring 84 in just 27 balls to set the platform for DC to post the 250+ score.
“It was quite amazing the way he (Fraser-McGurk) batted, he took calculated risks, and he played the field well. It shows the fearlessness of youth,” Pandya concluded.

The loss for MI will very likely dent their chances of making a late surge to secure a spot in the playoffs. But the side will be optimistic with several performances. Notably that of the skipper along with Tilak Varma and Tim David who also had their fair share of contributions to get the side close to completing the mammoth run-chase.
The side will look at their next task at hand which will be an away game against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Sports City, Lucknow on April 30.
