'Can't Wait': World Cup Winner Travis Head Arrives in India to Join SRH for IPL 2024
Travis Head had a memorable 2023 during which he won the WTC final and ODI World Cup with Australia, having scored a match-winning century in both the title clashes.

Australia batting star Travis Head has landed in India for the upcoming IPL 2024 where he will represent 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. Head was bought by SRH for Rs 6.80 crore at the IPL 2024 players’ auction last December.

Head had a memorable 2023 as he won both the ICC World Test Championship title and the ODI World Cup with the Australian team. He won player-of-the-match awards in both the finals having scored century in each of them.

“I am feeling good. Good to be back. Looking forward to a good season. The team looks good. Hopefully, I can contribute some runs,” he said in a video shared by SRH on their social media accounts.

“I heard amazing things about the Orange Army, looking forward to playing in front of everyone. We will try to win as many games as possible. Hopefully, we will have a successful season. Can’t wait to play in front of the crowd,” he added.

Head will be playing for SRH under the captaincy of fellow Australian Pat Cummins who was bought by the franchise for a jaw-dropping amount of Rs 20.50 crore thus making him the second most expensive player in the IPL auction history.

SRH haven’t qualified for the IPL playoffs in the previous three seasons and finished bottom of the 10-team standings last year. The franchise has gone through a host of captains in since 2021.

David Warner, who captained them to their only IPL title in 2016, was asked to step down midway through the season in 2021 and Kane Williamson was handed over the reins after SRH made a horrible start to the season having on just one of their first six matches.

Williamson’s appointment didn’t change much as far as SRH’s fortunes were concerned as in 2022, for the second straight season, they finished eighth on the table.

The reins of the team then were handed over to South African Aiden Markram and he was replaced as the captain after just one season in charge as well.
