Babar Azam on Thursday replaced Virat Kohli as the highest run-getter in T20I history. The Pakistan captain achieved the feat during his team’s 2024 T20 World Cup clash with co-host USA in Dallas.
Ahead of the start of the contest, Babar was 15 runs behind Kohli (4038 runs from 113 matches) in the list. He scored 44 off 43 to overtake the former India captain and has now taken his overall tally to 4067 runs from 120 matches.
India captain Rohit Sharma is third on the list with 4026 runs from 152 matches followed by Paul Stirling (3591 runs) and Martin Guptill (3531 runs).

While Babar may have achieved an individual milestone, Pakistan made a disappointing start to their world cup campaign after suffering a shocking defeat to USA in what was their first meeting at the international level.

Put in to bat first, Pakistan struggled their way to a decent total of 159/7. USA captain Monank Patel scored a half-century as USA finished with 159/3 in 20 overs resulting in a tie.
The winner was then decided by the Super Over and USA defended 18 runs in it to create history.
An upset Babar admitted Pakistan were poor in all three departments and blamed his bowlers for not picking up wickets.
“I am upset. We weren’t up to the mark in all three departments. We are better than that in the bowling, we didn’t take wickets in the first six overs. In the middle overs (either), our spinners didn’t pick wickets and it put pressure on us. And after 10 overs, we did come back but the way they (USA) finished the game in the Super Over, credit to team,” he said.
