Sarfaraz Khan was at his aggressive best and he took a shine to Akash Deep off whom he scored five fours in a row on Friday.

Sarfaraz Khan produced an entertaining show during India B’s second innings in their ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 against India A at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. Sarfaraz, who was dismissed for 9 in the first dig, responded with a brisk 36-ball 46 on Day 3 of the contest.

During his innings, Sarfaraz took a liking to India A right-arm pacer Akash Deep whom he smacked for five fours in a row during the 10th over of India B innings.

The over started with a dot ball before Sarfaraz guided a short ball past the gully region for four runs. He then cover-drove the next for four more and when Akash went down the leg-side, flicked it with ease to complete hat-trick of boundaries.

The 26-year-old, who made his India debut earlier this year, wasn’t done yet as he sent the fifth rushing past the mid-off region for another four and ended the over with crashing the delivery bowled well outside off past through point region for four more.

Sarfaraz fell to Avesh Khan as he was caught behind on 46, an innings featuring seven fours and a six.  Later, Rishabh Pant struck a typical quickfire fifty on his return to first-class  cricket. He struck nine fours and two sixes to make 61 off 47.

The ongoing Duleep Trophy attains significance as it’s being held right before the start of India’s international season which will see them first host Bangladesh for a two-match Test series later this month.

To get India regulars into the red-ball mode and give those on the fringes a chance to show their wares, the tournament is seeing participation of several international players.

In the other Duleep Trophy match India C, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, defeated India D, captained by Shreyas Iyer, by four wickets inside three days.
