The critically-acclaimed movie director, Ameer Sultan will soon be making a comeback as a director in Tamil cinema with his upcoming movie Iraivan Miga Periyavan. The actor-turned-director used to share good relations with the Tamil star Suriya during the early days in the film industry. The duo bonded after working together in the movie Maunam Pesiyadhe in 2002. It was Ameer Sultan’s directorial debut, which received positive reviews from the critics and audience. It was also commercially successful at the box office. During his latest movie’s pre-release event, Suriya expressed gratitude towards Ameer Sultan for his contribution to his brother, actor Karthi’s film career. When asked about the same, Ameer Sultan said that he wasn’t invited to the event. Today, the duo are reportedly not on talking terms due to a legal issue which happened in 2007.
In 2007, Ameer Sultan directed Karthi’s debut movie, which was titled Paruthiveeran. It was a critical hit and also became one of the superhit movies of the director. It went on to win several awards from the film festivals and other functions. It established actor Karthi in Tamil movies. In the same year, Ameer sued actor Sivakumar, his sons Surya and Karthi, producer of Paruthiveeran – KE Gnanavel Raja, Tamil Film Producers Council and Prasad labs in Madras Court. In the petition, he claimed that his expenses over the production of Paruthiveeran had not been paid with interest by the accused parties yet.
In his petition, Ameer Sultan said that he was compelled by actor Sivakumar to direct a film for Karthi Sivakumar. He wrote a script which was liked by Karthi and Suriya. Then they introduced Ameer to KE Ganavel Raja and said that he would be producing your film under his banner, Studio Green. After the approval from Sivakumar, the shooting of the movie started. It was halted mid-way due to a lack of funds from KE Gnanavel Raja. One of the major reasons for the same was the diversion of funds to the Suriya-starrer movie, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.
Due to this, Ameer Sultan decided to fund the movie with his own movie and production banner. Suriya also offered him some money to complete the movie. After the unofficial screening of the movie, Sivakumar and his family decided to release the movie under their banner Green Studio. They claimed the rights for production at the Producers Council. As per the petition, Sivakumar and KE Ganavel Raja secretly tried to sell the dubbing rights of the movie. This became one of the reasons for the dispute between Ameer Sultan and Suriya Sivakumar.
