Yaashika Aanand, hailing from a Punjabi background, entered the Tamil cinema scene with her debut in the film Don’t Worry. Unfortunately, she encountered a setback in her career when she was initially cast alongside Santhanam in a subsequent film, only to be later removed from the project.
While shooting a film in Pondicherry, Yaashika Aanand, once disclosed a distressing incident of sexual harassment. Recalling the incident, she mentioned that at the young age of thirteen, she didn’t understand the situation but reacted instinctively by turning around and defending herself. In a recent interview, she underscored the significance of standing strong in such instances.
In 2018, Yaashika Anand spoke out as a victim during the MeToo movement in India. She claimed that a director asked for sexual favours in exchange for a role in his film. Aanand declined and accused the director of harassment.
Yaashika made her film debut in 2016 and so far has worked in a few films. It was her stint on the reality show Bigg Boss Tamil season 2 which made her an overnight sensation.
After making her debut, Yaashika Aanand appeared in films such as Paadam and Maniyaar Kudumbam directed by Thambi Ramaiah. In 2019, she assumed the role of a mentor in the Star Vijay TV series Jodi Unlimited. Progressing in her acting career, Anand played the lead role in the animated zombie film Zombie.
In 2018, Yaashika Aanand was recognised as the most desirable woman on television by the Chennai Times. Then in 2021, she secured the Best Actress Award at the Las Vegas Independent Film Festival for her outstanding performance in Bestie.
Currently, she has a few projects in the pipeline including Weapon, Sulphur, Ivan Than Uthaman, Raja Bheema, Theeyorkku Anjael, Jolly O Gymkhana, and an untitled film with Yogi Babu.
Written and directed by Guhan Senniappan, the film stars Sathyaraj, Maya S. Krishnan, and Yaashika Aanand in the leading roles. The other cast of the film includes Tanya Hope, Kaniha, Gajaraj, Vasanth Ravi, Rajiv Menon, Rajeev Pillai, Baradwaj Rangan, Shiyas Kareem, and others in significant roles. With music composed by Ghibran, the cinematography of the film is handled by Prabhu Raghav.
