Pakistan suffered a shocking defeat against Afghanistan in a thrilling ODI World Cup match on Monday in Chennai. It was a below-par performance from Pakistan as they lost their third match in a row and it made things worse for them in the semi-final race.
Pakistan had another disappointing night with the ball and in the field as Afghanistan managed to stage another upset in the tournament after beating England earlier at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
PAK vs AFG Highlights ODI World Cup 2023
Chasing 283 to win, Afghanistan rode on the back of impressive innings from Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77 not out), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48 not out) to reach their target with six balls to spare.
It was Afghanistan’s first win over Pakistan in ODIs as they also registered their highest-successful chase in the 50-over format.
The cricket fraternity and fans on social media hailed the Afghanistan team’s effort while Pakistan faced the wrath of trolls.

Afghanistan decided to play with four spinners at the tricky Chepauk surface and it worked for them as young Noor Ahmad claimed three crucial wickets – Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique.
Meanwhile, Babar struck a composed half-century before useful cameos by lower-order batters guided Pakistan to a reasonably good total – 282/7, if one takes the track into account.
Opener Abdullah Shafique made 58 off 75 balls and Babar got 74 off 92 balls, but had it not been for the efforts of Iftikhar Ahmed and the returning Shadab Khan, Pakistan would have finished with far less than what they eventually achieved.
While Iftikhar smashed his way to a 27-ball 40, Shadab contributed a breezy 40 in 38 deliveries.
Noor Ahmad was the most successful Afghan bowler with figures of 3/49 while Naveen-ul-Haq chipped in with 2/52.
