The Indian Railways was fined an amount of Rs 30,000 after a train stopped beyond a platform at Gujarat’s Ankleshwar railway station, due to which an elderly man from Chennai had to jump on the tracks.

As per a Times of India report, the incident occurred in December 2021 when K V Ramesh of Agaram was travelling by a second A/C coach in Navajeevan Super-Fast Express to Ankaleshwar.

In his petition to the Chennai (North) District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Ramesh said that as the compartment and three other A/C coaches stopped outside the platform, he could not get down and attempted to jump thereby injuring himself.

The railways, as reported by TOI, said that the platform extension at Ankleshwar was completed 10 months after the incident, in October 2022.

The commission ordered the Railways to pay Rs 25,000 to the complainant for deficiency in service and another Rs 5,000 as litigation expenses, on October 30.
