‘Won’t Burden People With Additional Taxes’: Yediyurappa Allots Rs 7,795 Cr for Bengaluru Development in State Budget
Yediyurappa said the Karnataka government also plans to implement the ‘One Nation, One Card’ scheme before August 2021

Ahead of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections expected later this year, the Karnataka government on Monday allocated Rs 7,795 crore for the metropolis’ development.

Presenting his eighth State Budget at noon, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa sanctioned a grant of Rs 169 crore for the ‘raja kaluve’ or main storm water drain development in Koramangala. The drain takes away excess rainwater to rivers but has seen heavy encroachment around it over the last 10 years, leading to flooding in the surrounding areas.

The chief minister said state tax on petrol and diesel has not been increased. “The year 2020-21 due to Covid-19 pandemic has caused untold miseries to the general public. I am not willing to put the burden of additional taxes on the common people,” he said.

“Despite this in the 2021-22 budget, no taxes including Karnataka state tax on petrol and diesel has been increased and the budget has been formulated in such a way so as not to increase the financial burden on the common man,” he added.

A 50 bed sub-centre of the Jayadeva Insitute of Cardiology in Davangere will be set up at the government-run hospital at a cost of 20 crore. Ten crore to be spent on setting up of ‘Janaarogya Kendras’ or public health centres in 57 wards of the BBMP. A new multi-speciality hospital will also be built in North Bengaluru.

Rs 850 crore has been allotted for the suburban rail project in Bengaluru. An ‘Experience Bengaluru Centre’ will be also set up at the premises of Mysore Lamp works and a ‘Bangalore Signature Business Park’ will be built near the airport.

Yediyurappa state government also plans to implement the ‘One Nation, One Card’ scheme before August 2021. Facility will be made available for the use this card in Namma Metro and buses of Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation. A separate company will be established for managing collection, transportation and processing of solid waste of Bengaluru city.
