Telenor seeks compensation from India
Norway's Telenor ASA said on Tuesday it sought to claim compensation for all investment, guarantees and damages from the Indian govt.

New Delhi: Norway's Telenor ASA, whose India joint venture is among companies that are set to lose their telecoms licences, on Tuesday said it sought to claim compensation for all investment, guarantees and damages from the Indian government.

An earlier report had claimed that the Norwegian company had served a notice to the Indian government, claiming damages of nearly USD 14 billion.

However, the Telenor ASA refuted the reports saying the company has not stated any compensation amount in its letter to the Indian government on a possible arbitration after its licences were ordered cancelled by the country's top court.

"However, we will seek compensation for all investment, guarantees and damages," the company's spokeswoman, Glenn Mandelid said in an email to Reuters.
