Sensex ends below 13,600 in choppy trade
The BSE benchmark index, Sensex, on Tuesday succumbed to mid-way profit booking and lost more than 85 points.

New Delhi: After remaining in the positive zone in early trade, the markets ended in deep red on account of selling seen in index pivotals.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex, on Tuesday succumbed to mid-way profit booking and lost more than 85 points.

Selling pressure was seen in banking, capital goods, pharma and IT stocks. However, some buying was seen in select consumer durables and oil & gas stocks.

The 30-share index, which recovered by 96.27 points in early trade, fell back to close 85.82 points down at 13,566.33 on selling by funds in heavy-weight blue-chip stocks. Earlier, it moved between 13,748.42 and 13,493.38 points.

The second wide-based National Stock Exchange index, Nifty also fell by 22.00 points at 3911.40, after touching the day's high of 3963.75 and a low of 3,890.75.

About 1243 shares have advanced, 1363 shares declined, and 50 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 7,211.89 down 39 points down 0.5 per cent.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,882.31 down 30 points or 0.5%.

The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 1,849.68. Shaw Wallace, Nirma, United Spirits, P&G, Britannia closed in red.

The BSE Metal Index was down 0.5 per cent to close at 8,775.22. Welspun Guj, Guj NRE Coke, Tata Steel, SAIL, Sterlite Ind were among the losers.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.9 per cent at 7,016.63. Bank of India, Oriental Bank, Bank of Baroda, IOB, SBI moved downwards.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.9 per cent at 3,791.33. Divis Labs, Ipca Labs, Glenmark, FDC, Dr Reddys Labs, Nicholas Piramal closed lower.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 1.4 per cent at 8,976.16. KEC Infrastruct, Alstom Projects, Crompton Greave, L&T, Praj Industries ended lower

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,485.34 down 0.8 per cent. Sundram, Hind Motors, Tata Motors, Punj Tractors, Apollo Tyres were among the losers.

The BSE IT Index closed at 5,160.61 down 0.9 per cent. Satyam, HCL Info, Moser Baer, Mphasis ended weak.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 6,319.82 up 0.5 per cent.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8793.03 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 28151.8 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5143.49 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 42088.32 crore.
