Sensex closed above the 15,000 mark for first time ever.

New Delhi: After conquering the 15,000 mark Sensex continued its upward march on Monday, showing consolidation across scrips and bourses. The markets ended the day on an extremely strong note on anew high.

The markets were trading higher throughout the day without any signs of volatility or weakness. In terms of cues, Asia ended in green. Midcaps and smallcap stocks were trading higher outperforming the benchmark indices giving market an excellent breadth.

Sensex closed above the 15,000 mark for first time ever—up 81.61 points or 0.55 per cent at 15045.73 and Nifty up 34.55 points or 0.79 per cent at 4419.4.

Capital good stocks like L&T, IT pivotals and banking stocks hogged the limelight and were among the top gainers on the indices.

Roman Tarmat made a fantastic debut ending with a premium of 82 per cent. Banking stocks were trading strong Union Bank, Indian Bank, Bank of India, Dena Bank, Vijaya Bank were among the rallying PSU banks.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 8,019.99 up 1.5 per cent. The BSE Midcap Index closed at 6,683.70 up 1 per cent. The BSE Bankex was up 0.7 per cent at 8,179.72. Union Bank, IOB, Oriental Bank, Andhra Bank, Allahabad Bank moved upwards.

The BSE IT Index gained 1 per cent at 4,996.66. Tech Mahindra, TCS, Patni Computer, Wipro advanced. The BSE Metal Index was up 0.9 per cent to close at 10,870.47. Sterlite Ind, Shree Precoated, NALCO, JSW Steel, SAIL ended higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1 per cent at 12,901.82. Astra Microwave, Reliance Infra, Kalpataru Power, Lakshmi Machine,Thermax, Greaves Cotton closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index closed was up 0.6 per cent at 3,842.90. Divis Labs, Opto Circuits, GlaxoSmithKline, Apollo Hospital, Dr Reddys Labs, Lupin closed higher.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.4 per cent to close at 7,654.31. Petronet LNG, ONGC, GAIL ended in green. The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,888.89 down 0.3 per cent and BSE FMCG Index lost 0.6 per cent at 1,844.48.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 9749.13 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 27570.89 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4824.72 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 42144.74 crore.
