Mumbai: The markets had a very strong session it recouped all the losses it made on Monday.
It was the biggest single day gain for Sensex since July 20. The Sensex closed at 11,893.79 up 233 points. The Nifty gained 66 points to close at 3455.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,975.39 up 105 points or 1.79 per cent.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,004.86 up 86 points 1.75 per cent.
All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain.
The BSE Bankex was up 4 per cent at 5,547.75. Federal Bank, Oriental Bank, Bank of India, Andhra Bank and Union Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 1 per cent to close at 5,646.72. MRPL, IOC, Chennai Petro and BPCL closed higher.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 2 per cent at 7,955.37. Lakshmi Machine, Gammon India, Carborundum and Greaves Cotton closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index gained 2.2 per cent at 5,195.41. Bharat Forge, Cummins, Maruti Udyog, TVS Motor and Escorts were among the top gainers.
The BSE FMCG Index rose 1.3 per cent at 1,992.16. Britannia, McDowell, HLL and Dabur India closed in green.
The BSE Health Care Index rose 1.8 per cent at 3,583.30. Aurobindo Pharma, Dr Reddys Labs, Divis Labs, Wockhardt and GlaxoSmithKline closed higher.
The BSE IT Index was up 2 per cent at 4,310.77. Patni Computer, Satyam, Infosys, TCS and Wipro advanced.
The BSE Metal Index was flat at 8,228.92.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7460.59 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 27,804.19 crore.
The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3983.82 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 39,248.6 crore.
