New Delhi: The markets opened on strong note on Wednesday on the back of good cues from the global markets. Heavy buying was seen in the metals, capital goods, FMCG and power stocks.
At 10.27 hrs IST, the Sensex was up 51.69 points or 0.33 per cent at 15,594.46, and the Nifty up 19.95 points or 0.44 per cent at 4,517. Major gainers in the opening trade were Infosys, Sterlite Industries, RPL, Reliance, ITC, L&T, GAIL, HCL, Sun Pharma, Ranbaxy, Suzlon, Tata Steel, SAIL and Dr. Reddy's.
BSE smallcap was up 0.96 per cent at 8611.56 and Midcap was up 0.76% at 6927.95. Nifty Sep Future was quoting at 4506 with 15 points discount. Market breadth on NSE was 4:1 in favour of advancing stocks.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Ambuja Cements at Rs 144.60 up 1.12%, Tata Steel at Rs 715 up 0.89% and Reliance at Rs 2,001.90 up 0.79%.
Top losers on the Sensex are TCS at Rs 1,018 down 0.57%, Infosys at Rs 1,814 down 0.5% and NTPC at Rs 195.30 down 0.23%.
IT stocks are trading with deep cut on the back of further appreciation of rupees. Rupee was quoting at 40.48 against US Dollar. BSE IT index was up 0.16% at 4478. Major losers in this space were Mphasis at 291.20 down 0.50%, TCS at 1,020.50 down 0.33% and Infosys at 1,819 down 0.23%.
Most active shares on NSE at IFCI at Rs 78.50 with 10,581,305 shares, Everonn Systems at Rs 723.40 with 1,109,389 shares and TataTeleservice at Rs 35.25 with 17,034,509 shares.
