India Working On Indigenous Mobile Phone Brand: Ashwini Vaishnaw
Ashwini Vaishnaw said that India's goal is to establish a comprehensive mobile ecosystem within the nation.

Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said that the government is working on developing an Indian mobile phone brand by drawing inspiration from the widespread success of mobile manufacturing in the country. Presenting the Indus App Store on behalf of payment service provider PhonePe, Vaishnaw added that the government can very soon approve two to three semiconductor manufacturing plants.

Vaishnaw said, “We will work towards developing our Indian mobile phone brand. Our goal is to establish a comprehensive mobile ecosystem within the nation. The lessons we’ve learned from our initial success in large-scale mobile production are excellent. The industry now feels much more confident as a result of this. Ecosystem partners are now more inclined to visit India as a result. Over the following five years, this journey will be completed.”

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a very clear blueprint for the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in the country. He added, “We started our Bharat Semiconductor Mission and we have already achieved great success.”

As stated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, “We will also see two or three more approvals in a very short time frame.” According to him, in the next five years, the government intends to establish three or four high-quality, high-volume fabrication units. aims to establish a specialized market and take the lead in at least one product area.

Vaishnaw also unveiled the homemade Indus Appstore, which PhonePe has now purchased, at the event. With more than 2 lakh mobile apps and games spread across 45 categories, this app store supports customers in 12 Indian languages. Developers benefit greatly from the fact that Indus Appstore does not impose a fee on app earnings, in contrast to well-known app shops like Google Playstore and Apple App Store.

The technology sector in India is moving closer to self-sufficiency thanks to the government’s efforts to create an indigenous mobile phone brand and build a strong semiconductor ecosystem. The opening of the Indus Appstore fosters a thriving software economy and gives Indian developers even more leverage.
