Roopkumar Rathod has been popular for his ghazals and sufi music. But his career started not as a singer but as a member of a band. Even though he belonged to the music family, he paved his own way in the industry. He started out as a tabla player in famous singer Anup Jalota’s band in 1984. The band used to travel all around the world for their performances. It was during this time that he got introduced to Sunali, who was married to Anup Jalota at the time. Gradually, Roopkumar and Sunali got close, and their relationship blossomed into love.
It has been reported that once Anup was travelling to the USA for a performance, he asked his wife to accompany him. But she refused, as she wanted to spend time with Roopkumar. It was then that Anup got to know about their love. He tried his best to tarnish the reputation of Roopkumar in the industry.
