In a remarkable tale of survival off the coast of Tamil Nadu, a 25-year-old fisherman named Murugan found himself in a life-threatening situation after falling off his boat during a fishing expedition. Alone in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, Murugan faced the daunting challenge of staying afloat for an astonishing 43 hours.
The incident unfolded when Murugan, working for a Kerala boat, encountered adverse weather conditions on a Sunday. Accidentally falling into the water, he was left to navigate the ocean currents on his own. Despite the presence of more than four water vessels passing through the vicinity during this extended period, none were able to spot or hear Murugan in the vast expanse.
The dramatic rescue took place off the coast of Gangolli, Karnataka, where fishermen Sridhar Kharvi and Sanjeeva Kharvi spotted Murugan and quickly mobilized to save him. The fishermen, with the assistance of their peers, pulled Murugan aboard their boat, ending his 43-hour ordeal at sea. Subsequently, he was safely returned to Tamil Nadu and handed over to his boat owner.
News of Murugan’s rescue spread joy among his community in Tamil Nadu, who had initially feared the worst and were in search of his body. The improbable survival story left many astounded, and Murugan expressed profound gratitude to those who played a pivotal role in rescuing him from the vastness of the ocean.
