Samsung has unveiled its battery technology at the SNE Battery Day 2024 Expo in Seoul, South Korea.
The tech giant introduced a solid-state oxide battery specifically designed for electric vehicles (EVs).
According to Team BHP, the standout feature of Samsung’s new battery is its 20-year lifespan and the ability to hold around 500 kW per kilogram of energy density—almost double what current EV batteries offer. This means that EVs equipped with these batteries could travel up to 600 miles (965 km) on a single charge!
Another standout feature is the super-fast charging capability. Samsung claims its new batteries can charge fully in just 9 minutes, but this requires advanced infrastructure with charging speeds between 480 kW and 600 kW.
Samsung is already collaborating with carmakers to bring this technology to market. They’ve partnered with Toyota, aiming to start mass production by 2027. The first models to feature this tech could come from Toyota’s luxury sub-brand, Lexus.
This innovation promises a significant leap forward for electric vehicles, making them more efficient and convenient for drivers.
