The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking is all set to start two pairs of premium service buses in a major development visioned to improve urban transportation.
The service is being rolled out with air-conditioned buses on Bus Route No. S-145, connecting World Trade Center and Konkan Bhavan, CBD Belapur via the recently inaugurated Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link), promising a convenient and comfortable ride.
As reported by The Free Press Journal, bus services are scheduled to begin operations today, March 14, offering a reliable transportation option to passengers. These premium bus services will remain functional from Monday to Saturday for commuters travelling between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
As per a BEST official, the decision to launch the premium bus service comes in response to persistent demands from travellers following the inaugural of the Atal Setu. Commuters have voiced the need for a reliable and comfortable public transport option connecting these crucial business hubs, reported the media outlet.
“The bus route, encompassing key landmarks such as the World Trade Center, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (GPO), and Yashwantrao Chavan Center, is strategically designed to optimise connectivity,” the official stated.
The media outlet further quoted BEST, saying, “The two air-conditioned buses will initially be deployed on this route, promising passengers a comfortable and climate-controlled environment. The services are tailored to cater to the morning and evening peak hours, ensuring a convenient travel experience.”
These bus services aim to span the distance between the two hubs in just 100 minutes. The bus will depart from Konkan Bhavan, CBD Belapur, at 7:30 AM and 8 AM, and will run from the World Trade Center from 5:30 PM to 6 PM.
Keeping up with modern trends, the premium bus service will operate on BEST’s ‘Chalo App’, allowing commuters to access and book their rides conveniently and guaranteeing faster travel with fewer stops, informed an official. These buses will not allow standing travel.
In addition to that, when asked about the fare structure, the official revealed that the all-day route fare structure is designed to cater to a wide range of passengers. The minimum fare for the bus services starts at Rs 50, while the maximum fare exceeds Rs 225.
It is worth noting that 300 buses from five BEST depots are being equipped with air purification systems. Out of them, 240 buses have already been equipped with the systems.
Earlier, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (ST) launched its Shivneri bus service between Mumbai and Pune via MTHL, with 16.50 kilometre on sea and 5.50 km on land.
