An IndiGo aircraft from Amritsar missed the taxiway after landing at the Delhi airport on Sunday morning, leading to the blocking of one of the runways for around 15 minutes.
The aircraft A320, operating flight 6E 2221, went to the dead end of runway 28/10 after missing the designated taxiway at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), reported the news agency, PTI.
A source of the agency informed that due to the incident, the runway was blocked for around 15 minutes impacting some flight operations. Later, an IndiGo towing van towed the aircraft from the dead end of the runway to a parking bay, the source added.
Comments from the airline on the incident are awaited.
Just a couple of weeks back, IndiGo and other airlines were pulled by the Indian aviation regulators, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
The BCAS has imposed a fine of Rs 1.2 crore on IndiGo over a failure to adhere to security measures regarding the incident where passengers were seen eating on the tarmac as per a video that went viral.
Earlier, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) had issued a showcase notice to IndiGo airline and Mumbai airport after a video of passengers sitting and eating food on the tarmac amid flight delays went viral on social media.
According to the notices, “both Indigo and MIAL were not proactive in anticipating the situation and making the appropriate facilitation arrangements for passengers at the airport”.
The notice to IndiGo came after several passengers were seen rushing out of its aircraft at the Mumbai airport, sitting on the tarmac and even having a meal there. Their Goa-Delhi flight had been diverted and landed in Mumbai after a long delay on January 14.
