The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is speeding up the land acquisition process for Namma Metro’s Phase 3, aiming for completion by 2028.
The much-anticipated Orange Line, which is part of this phase, faced delays due to the need for extra land to build three key stations in southern Bengaluru.
Phase 3 will feature two main corridors: JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.15 km) and Hosahalli to Kadabagere (12.5 km), all fully elevated, stretching over 44.65 km with 43 stations. Originally, 777 private properties covering 1,29,743 square meters were marked for acquisition, but more land is now needed for stations at JP Nagar 5th Phase, Kamakhya Bus Depot, and Hosakerehalli.
According to Oneindia, BMRCL’s General Manager for Land Acquisition, MS Channappagoudar, noted that while the properties identified include commercial spaces, no major institutions or heritage sites will be affected. The total cost of land acquisition is still being calculated and might differ from the initial estimates due to changes in land use.
Corridor 1 will mostly run along the western side of the Outer Ring Road, requiring private land mainly for station construction and road expansion. Additionally, BMRCL is considering building metro-cum-flyovers as part of Phases 3 and 3A. Two double-deck flyovers may also be constructed: one from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Hebbal (29.2 km) and another from Hosahalli to Kadabagere (11.45 km), with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) involved in decisions regarding the flyover at Delmia Circle.
To support Phase 3’s construction, BMRCL has awarded Rs 5.5 crore worth of geotechnical investigation contracts. These studies will guide the project by assessing the terrain and necessary equipment, helping contractors estimate the construction costs.
With land acquisition plans advancing smoothly, Namma Metro Phase 3 is on track to transform Bengaluru’s transportation landscape by 2028.
