HYDERABAD: A pair of Indian rhinoceros have been brought on Tuesday from Sanjay Gandhi biological park in Patna to enthral visitors at the Nehru zoological park. The pair includes a 7-year-old male and a 5-year-old female rhinos, each of which weighs over a ton, said Nehru zoo curator M A Waheed. The rainy season is the ideal time for the rhinos to adapt to the new city. As rhinos are gregarious animals, they will be kept together in the zoo. For the first two days they will be off-display as they need to rest after a long travel of 1,700 kms from Patna to Hyderabad, he added. He said that all the necessary arrangements to facilitate the rhinos have been made. A 32X30 sq ft space has been kept cleaned with sheds so that the rhinos could move freely and a small pond has been arranged at the corner of its premises.Dr M A Hakeem, assistant director (Veterinary) of Nehru zoo said, "The Nehru zoo would arrange grass, twigs, shoots, wheat, etc for the rhinos to eat." Patna zoo authorities have sent the rhinos in exchange for a pair of Asiatic lions and a pair of Royal Bengal tigers and a yellow tiger, Waheed said. "We sent the animals to the Patna zoo last week," he added.
