A 14-year-old died after his father allegedly gave him a cold drink laced with a poisonous substance in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, police said on Thursday. The accused killed his son because he was reportedly tired of receiving regular complaints about the boy’s behaviour from school authorities and his adult film addiction.
The accused Vijay Battu, who works as a tailor in Solapur city, has been arrested, according to a report by India Today.
As per the report, the man initially tried to conceal his involvement in his son Vishal’s murder. However, he was arrested after he confessed to his crime to his wife, who turned him over to the police.
On January 13, Vijay, along with his wife Keerti, approached police to file a missing person’s complaint for their son.
Police later recovered Vishal’s body from a drain near the couple’s home. His post-mortem report reportedly revealed the presence of sodium nitrate, a poison, inside his body.
The police then registered a murder case and started an investigation.
During questioning, the police noticed discrepancies in Vijay’s statements.
While the probe was underway, Vijay, on January 28, confessed to Keerti about killing their son, the India Today report said.
Vijay reportedly told his wife that he has been receiving several complaints from Vishal’s school about his unruly behaviour and lack of focus on his studies. He was also unhappy about Vishal’s behaviour at home and his addiction to adult films.
On the morning of January 13, Vijay reportedly took Vishal out on his bike and offered him a soft drink mixed with poison.
When Vishal lost consciousness, Vijay threw his body into the drain.
After his confession, Vijay’s wife approached the police and turned him over. Vijay was arrested and presented him before a magistrate’s court on January 29.
The court sent him to two-day police custody.
