Three days after the web-based counselling for EAMCET-MPC stream began, students still grapple with multi-step procedures of log-in. The system of entering individual log-in number, issued after certificate verification in the form of a scratch card, seems to have added to the confusion, apart from other misconceptions regarding the process.
The consultancy service providers are cashing in on the confusion by answering queries via phone, sms or sending updates to students directly. However, relying on these firms proved costly for some of the students.
“I entered the registration number, instead of the scratch card number, for my log-in because of which my card was blocked. I had to rush to the EAMCET campoffice where staff helped me with the process,” said a B.E.aspirant G.Praneeth Gowda, who secured a rank of 9492. Gowda had enquired with a consultancy agency which traced his number and sent him updates.
EAMCET camp officer Dr K Raghunath Rao warned students against relying on middlemen for their log-ins or entry of options.
“We advise students to reach help centres instead of approaching internet cafés or other centres as many cases of data manipulation were reported last year. For this reason only, we have opted for the scratch card system this year which adds another level of security,” he said and added that if the card is lost, the students should apply for a new one at the EAMCET camp office.
The frequent server slow downs have caused panic among students who preferred to enter their options either at home or help centres.
“One of my seniors cautioned me against accessing the log-in from internet centres as the data is prone to misuse. I have been successful in generating an ID from home though it took me more than half an hour to fill in each of the 20 colleges,” said a student, M.Swathi.
The homework sheets issued to the candidates during certificate verification process provide a check-list to be followed during option entry.
“The homework sheet eliminates confusion and makes it easier for us to assist the candidates. However, the turnout is just 10-15 students a day now,” said A. Vijay, an assistant at one of the four help centres at the AV College. The students can also attend briefing sessions being relayed at the various help centres on web-counselling for a better idea.
