Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) continues its journey in the Indian automotive market, with the Fronx crossover SUV reaching a significant milestone.

Launched in April 2023, the Fronx has achieved the remarkable feat of 1 lakh sales, establishing itself as one of the fastest-selling models in the country, according to the report by Gaadiwaadi.com.

However, in a strategic move to further bolster its market presence, the Indian automaker is contemplating a reshuffling of the Fronx variants.

Sales Success and Milestone Achievement:

The Fronx has quickly become a favourite among Indian car buyers, as evident from its robust sales figures.

Recently surpassing the 1 lakh sales mark, the crossover SUV has cemented its position as a popular choice in the domestic market.

Maruti Suzuki’s success with the Fronx can be attributed to its diverse powertrain options, featuring a 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine, a Bi-Fuel CNG variant, and a potent 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine.

Variant Rejig for Affordability:

Despite its success, the Fronx Turbo variant has faced challenges in terms of sales due to its higher price premium over the regular petrol counterpart.

The turbocharged engine is currently available only in the mid-spec Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trims, contributing to its premium pricing.

In response to market dynamics, Maruti Suzuki is now considering a strategic variant reshuffle, aiming to make the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine more affordable.

Market Share Analysis:

Currently, the 1.2-litre regular petrol engine commands the majority share in Fronx sales, followed by the Bi-Fuel CNG variant and the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 16 percent and 7 percent, respectively.

The move to introduce the turbo engine from the entry-level Sigma trim is expected to make the powerful 1.0-litre engine more accessible to a broader customer base, aligning with Maruti Suzuki’s initial sales target of 25-30 percent.

Customer Demands and Future Prospects:

Customer demands have also led to considerations for the availability of the 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine with top-spec trims (Zeta and Alpha).

The response from Maruti Suzuki to these demands remains to be seen.

It’s worth noting that the Turbo engine is manufactured in India, and the company’s heavy investment in localisation highlights its commitment to reaping the benefits of this initial investment.
