Chenab Bridge, Delhi-Mumbai E-Way: 5 Big Projects to Be Inaugurated by PM Modi Before Lok Sabha Polls
The next two months are expected to see a bonanza of infrastructure projects being inaugurated by PM Modi across the country, in what government officials are describing as a ‘campaign of Viksit Bharat’ before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections

Five landmark projects are set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the next two months before the Lok Sabha elections, News18 has learnt.

This will be among a number of mega projects to be inaugurated by the prime minister across the country after he has toured Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu so far to unveil projects worth crores.

The five big projects on the PM’s table for inauguration are the world’s highest railway bridge in J&K Chenab Bridge, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, the stretch of Delhi-Mumbai expressway falling in Gujarat, the Dwarka Expressway in Delhi and the Agra Metro to the Taj Mahal.

News18 reported on Tuesday that the next two months are expected to see a bonanza of infrastructure projects being inaugurated by PM Modi across the country, in what government officials are describing as a ‘campaign of Viksit Bharat’ before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

This will include sectors like road and highway projects, aviation, railways, petroleum and natural gas, and telecom among others. The PM is expected to tour multiple states to unveil these projects before the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls comes into force.

A look at the five big projects:

1. Chenab Bridge: The world’s highest rail bridge may be inaugurated soon by the prime minister in J&K, which will also mark the Kashmir Valley being connected with Jammu by a rail link. The bridge falls on the Katra-Banihal line, the only non-functional section in the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project. The Chenab Bridge spans 1,315 metres and is 359-metre high, making it the world’s highest rail bridge. It is built over the Chenab River, connecting Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The “Golden Joint,” the last joint in the bridge, was completed in 2022. A track has been laid, and the first-ever track-mounted vehicle trial was conducted last year as well here.

2. Mumbai Trans Harbour Link: India’s longest sea bridge in Mumbai will be inaugurated by the prime minister on January 12. The sea bridge, which connects Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, is being named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The 21.6-km-long bridge will significantly reduce travel time between the mainland and the island city to just 20-25 minutes. Mumbai is an island city known for South-North commute and transportation. With MTHL, East-West connectivity will improve, which will help get labour and raw material from Navi Mumbai to Mumbai city quickly and save costs.

3. Dwarka Expressway: The Gurgaon stretch of the Dwarka Expressway is also slated for inauguration by the prime minister soon. This is a mega project for the Delhi-NCR region and has been designed as India’s first fully access controlled 8-lane elevated expressway on single pier, along with an 8-lane tunnel of 3.8 km and four level interchanges. This project also includes 2.4 km long 6-lane tunnel for seamless connectivity to Delhi International Airport, multiple 3-lavel interchanges for signal free connectivity and 6-lane service road for segregation of local traffic.

4. Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: Two more stretches of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway could be inaugurated by the prime minister in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The PM has earlier inaugurated two stretches of the expressway, the Sohna-Dausa-Lalsot section in February last year and the Modak-Jhabua section in Madhya Pradesh in October last year. A particular stretch in Rajasthan and a major stretch in Gujarat between Ankaleshwar and Vadodara could be inaugurated by the PM soon. This will further shorten the journey between Delhi and Mumbai, the two big cities.

5. Agra Metro: A 6-km metro stretch in Agra going to the Taj Mahal could also be inaugurated soon by the prime minister. This is a prestigious project as lot of tourists come to Agra every year and a Metro was planned to ease congestion and increase passenger convenience. The stretch to be inaugurated is a priority corridor which also includes an underground section. This will be the fourth metro project to become operational in Uttar Pradesh after Noida, Lucknow and Kanpur.
